K-pop is a worldwide phenomenon, with South Korea being the only post-colonial country to emerge as a mainstay of the global cultural industry. Korean is now the third most downloaded music language in the world, after English and Spanish. This session aims to better understand the power of K-pop and look into its future, and will cover the following topics1) What factors have made K-pop an internationally competitive industry and is it sustainable in the future?2) What social media marketing know-how has made K-pop successful in the global market and what are the implications for other industries?3) What are the gender issues of K-POP, which is dominated by female consumers?4) How have institutional factors such as government support and cultural climate influenced the success of K-POP and what are the future challenges?This session will feature scholars who have published academic papers in special issues of Asia Pacific Business Review, one of Asias top three international business journals. #kpop #culture #koreapop
